The early bird gets the deal - or do they?

Mega online sites seem to make you feel like if you don’t snatch up deals early then you will be missing out, but is that really true?

They are vying for you to spend your hard-earned money on their site’s product offerings before you go buy somewhere else. And they don’t provide you any personalized service or direct answers if you have questions. Sure, you can read product reviews for some feedback, but can you trust that those reviews were not solicited and paid for by the seller? It’s true! This is really something that sellers can do, it’s called Astroturfing, and you should research more about this common practice. Visit the Competition Bureau of Canada website.

Always remember that you, the consumer, are the boss of what, where and when you buy. Don’t be bullied into thinking that early season internet deals will be the best price for the best quality items offered for sale anywhere. There will always be good deals and bad deals out there.

There is no better time than right now to remember this, during all the chaos of Covid-19 related job losses, manufacturing business re-starts, social distancing and restrictions. Retail stores are slowing opening up and even though you may not feel you want to make the trip to visit in person, you can always phone them! Small businesses and local retail stores have real live people doing customer service and wanting to help you.  Employees are happy to be back at work and are more than willing to spend the time to answer all your questions and assist you with answers to make a knowledgeable purchase decision.

There is absolutely no way to get a knowledgeable person on the phone from a third-party online website. And if you type in a question, they tell you they are going to go right to the manufacturer for an answer and get back to you. So why use this middleman?  Why not go ask the manufacturer directly yourself.

When buying Canadian down and feather filled items, product knowledge is the best consumer due diligence.  Getting answers will be arming yourself with buying power to make sure what you think you are purchasing is really what you are going to get.
